YAFIT FISHBACH

Founder

Yafit was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, but currently lives in Memphis, TN with her husband and two dogs. After attending Bruriah High School, she received her Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College in English Literature and her Master’s degree from NYU in Secondary English Education. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Education at Yeshiva University. Yafit has been teaching English and History in grades 7-12 for the past four years and spending her summer and winter breaks traveling the world, managing to visit nearly thirty countries.

She loves all kinds of texts, which is why she teaches English and also why she learns daf yomi. She is an advocate for women’s learning and has spoken for women at siyumim and has given shiurim at her shul in Memphis. Most importantly, she is passionate about experiential learning, often using it in her classroom at Margolin Hebrew Academy, trying to immerse students in learning experiences rather than simply reading the content matter. It is her hope that students gain appreciation of history and cultures other than their own and use this wonderful opportunity to explore the world around them.

GILA DUSOWITZ

Executive Director

Dvora Gila Dusowitz is a native of Brooklyn and currently lives in Crown Heights. She is most notably the puppy mama to an adorably fun, snuggly, and mischievous puppy, Sophie!

Gila has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, and English from Touro College, a Master’s degree in English Education from New York University, and a second Master’s degree in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. In the past, she’s worked with middle and high school students and will begin her fifth year working with 8th graders in a public middle school in Brooklyn.

When not teaching, Gila is cycling through NY as a former TDS cyclist, photographing nature, spending time with family and friends, or traveling! She’s explored eleven countries and twenty-four US states but plans to reach all fifty one day. One of her favorite aspects of traveling is researching a location, planning the trip, and seeing it come to fruition. Gila is excited by learning and exploring a new country’s culture, history, language, geography, and people and notes that it is immeasurably rewarding to share her passion for travel and education with others and spark that excitement in them as well!
